I personally struggle to pirotize my work. Because I would like to achieve all the goal that I set without any pirotizing my goals. There is only 24 hours in a single day that I can use. Which means, I cannot spend all my time what I wanna do:
- I have to work till late night even though I made a plan to get a dinner with my friends.`I have to work till late night even though I made a plan to get a dinner with my friends.
- I am going to play my video game when I already made a plan to go out with my girlfriend.
- I am not going to bed becuase I need to study for my finals.
Like these examples, I cannot spend my time to focus on many different things in my life. I will be end up losing my friend, girlfriend and failing my grade due to my action. Doing many things at once does not lead us to success. By focusing too many things at once will lose directions of our lives.
This book emphasize people will be easily motivated and rewarded by focusing one thing at a time, and then ask a question in this book:
“What’s the one thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”
In the book: One thing
FOCUS ONE THING – We need to learn do things what really matters. we need to give up on something that lead us to focus one thing in our lives.
Domino Effect
the domino effect is a key concept that emphasizes the power of focusing on one important thing at a time to achieve extraordinary results. The authors use the analogy of a domino chain reaction to illustrate how small, consistent actions can lead to significant outcomes over time.
Here’s how the domino effect is explained in the book:
- Start with a Single Domino: Just like in a domino chain, where one domino can knock over another domino that is 50% larger, starting with a small, manageable task or goal can lead to bigger accomplishments.
- Build Momentum: By consistently tackling your most important task (your “ONE Thing”) day after day, you start to build momentum. Each completed task serves as a foundation for the next one, propelling you towards your larger goals.
- Achieve Extraordinary Results: Over time, the cumulative effect of these small actions can lead to extraordinary results. The book emphasizes that success is not achieved overnight but through steady progress and focusing on what matters most.
The key takeaway is to identify your most important task—the ONE Thing that will make everything else easier or unnecessary—and consistently work towards it. This approach helps you prioritize effectively and leverage the power of compounding efforts to achieve your long-term goals.
Time blocking and productivity strategies
Time blocking is a productivity strategy where you allocate specific blocks of time to focus exclusively on certain tasks or types of tasks. This method helps in organizing your day more effectively, minimizing distractions, and ensuring that important work gets done.

- Focused Attention: By dedicating uninterrupted time to a task or project, you can achieve deep focus and concentration, which enhances productivity.
- Prioritization: It encourages you to prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency, ensuring that you tackle the most critical activities first.
- Efficiency: Structuring your day into blocks helps you avoid multitasking and context switching, which can reduce productivity and increase mental fatigue.
- Progress Tracking: It provides a clear structure for tracking progress on tasks, as you can see how much time you’ve allocated and spent on each activity.
- Strategies for Effective Time Blocking:
- Identify Priorities: Start by identifying your most important tasks or goals (often aligned with the focusing question from “The One Thing”).
- Allocate Time Wisely: Assign specific time blocks for each task or category of tasks, ensuring they are realistic and aligned with your energy levels.
- Set Boundaries: During time blocks, minimize distractions by turning off notifications, setting up a conducive workspace, and communicating your availability to others.
- Review and Adjust: Regularly review your time blocks to see if adjustments are needed based on your productivity and progress.
- Batch Similar Tasks: Group similar tasks together within a block to maximize efficiency (e.g., responding to emails, conducting research).
