Hello, Everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful day! Recently, Squid Game Season 2 became available on Netflix everywhere, and so many people are eager to see what’s happening next. I have to say, I really enjoyed watching the first season of Squid Game.

After finishing Season 2, I’m already counting down the days until Season 3! But, there were a few questions I had while watching it. One of the big ones: Why was Player 388 so scared?
SPOILER ALERT!!! (THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR SQUAD GAME SEASON 2)

While watching Season 2, I kept wondering why Player 388 seemed so terrified, especially during the final two episodes. The players were fighting against the game host to finish the game, and Player 388 was supposed to bring more magazines from the shelter. But when he couldn’t get more, it seemed like he wasn’t just scared, but possibly having a panic attack after the combat.
In the show, Player 388 is known for having served in the Marines after completing his mandatory service. I’m thinking he might have PTSD from his time in the military. In my opinion, he likely experienced something traumatic while serving, which could explain why he reacted so strongly in the game. What do you think?
In the show, it is explained that he joined the 1140th Marine Corps, which became part of the marine on April 18, 2011. In July 2011, during the service period mentioned above, a shooting involving a fellow Marine Corps member occurred on Ganghwa Island. I think this event is connected to the story, which is why he is having a panic attack in the show. Perhaps he was the only survivor from the Marine Corps incident on Ganghwa Island.

Ganghwa Island Marine Corps Fellow Shooting
The Marine Corps Incident on Ganghwa Island happened in July 2011. One of the former Marine soldiers (now a criminal) fired a gun at fellow Marines in the same barracks, targeting those he held a grudge against. Tragically, four people were killed, and two others were injured.
One of the most shameful aspects of this incident is what happened to the injured survivors. They were traumatized from witnessing the deaths and suffered from severe PTSD.

This leads me to my theory: I believe the director of Squid Game wanted to indicate that one of the soldiers, who participated in the game, had a difficult time coping with his trauma and PTSD. Unable to live a normal life, he found himself in severe debt, which eventually led him to join Squid Game.
